PhotoGPSEditor 1.1.5 (Mac-Software)

Februar 26th, 2007 by Felix Hardmood Beck

PhotoGPSEditor is an easy to use meta-data editor for photo (JPEG/RAW/Tiff) files, plus it can match data from GPS (gpx or NMEA) files. The program is freeware, however, donatations can be made to help support future development.

With PhotoGPSEditor you can add location and summary details to a JPEG, RAW or Tiff files. Location information consists of latitude and longitide data, as well as town, area/region, and country. This can be added automatically by matching up photos with GPS (gpx or NMEA) file track data, manually (just type it in) or ‘automatically’ by placing a pointer on a map to get the latitude and longitide data. The program can then add town, area/region, and country information. This process can also be described as ‘geocoding’ a picture/photo.

GPSPhotoLinker (Macsoftware)

Februar 26th, 2007 by Felix Hardmood Beck

GPSPhotoLinker can be used to save location and GPS position data to a photo. The latitude and longitude recorded by your GPS unit while you were taking photos can be linked, and saved, to the photos. GPSPhotoLinker automatically enters the city, state, and country annotations into the metadata.

Check out the companion application MapThePhoto which lets you map a geolocated photo from anywhere in the finder with a simple right click. Also check out iPhotoToGoogleEarth,a plugin for iPhoto 6 that will export photos for viewing in Google Earth. With Spotlight in Mac OS X 10.4, you can instantly search for the city, state and country information automatically saved by GPSPhotoLinker. Additionally, Mac OS X 10.4 does support the GPS metadata tags in photos. This will open up a whole realm of opportunities for users and developers to take advantage of the position data on photos.
