For his final year project in information design, Felix Heinen created an amazing set of visualizations of different aspects of a social network. Two big (200 x 90 cm – 80 x 36 inches) posters show the variety and attitudes of members from an internet community like MySpace.

On the first poster you can see the functions used, as well as additional information, such as age, educational background, family status, gender and how often they are logged in. In a glimpse, a view into the key demographic data available for every member’s profile.

The second poster gives you an overview of the geographic location of all members, based on a world map. The aim was to provide the management team with a visualization tool that would allow a better understanding of the community members, rather than a just a simple scan of their database. Felix has also developed a flash based interactive tool that allows users to navigate through all the collected data.

Jedes Jahr Anfang Januar stehen die Heiligen Drei Könige vor dem Haus von Herbert Steffen in Mastershausen. Die sogenannten Sternsinger, Jugendliche aus der Dorfgemeinde, tragen ein frommes Lied vor, dann erbitten sie eine Spende für die Mission.

Steffen ist ein reicher Mann, 72 Jahre alt, ehemaliger Möbelhausbesitzer, Millionär. Aber von ihm kriegen die Sternsinger keinen Cent. Wäre ja noch schöner.

“Beten verboten!”, so steht es auf dem Schild an seiner Haustür. Herbert Steffen hat in diesem tiefkatholischen Dorf im Hunsrück eine religionsfreie Zone eingerichtet. Hinter der Haustür liegt das Hauptquartier der deutschen Ungläubigen.

Die Giordano Bruno Stiftung, benannt nach dem im Jahr 1600 in Rom verbrannten Ketzer, versucht von Mastershausen aus all diejenigen zu organisieren, die an Gott und Kirche nicht glauben. Die Stiftung liefert ihnen das theoretische Rüstzeug, sie ist der Think-Tank der deutschen Atheisten. Man könnte auch sagen: Die Giordano Bruno Stiftung ist das geistige Oberhaupt all derjenigen, die geistigen Oberhäuptern nicht trauen. Und das ist naturgemäß ein ziemlich mühsames Geschäft.

Die vergangenen 2 Tage habe ich in der Werkstatt “Raum 3″ verbracht und mit dem Lasercutter (Versalaser) Abstandsscheiben für die Fuss-Mechanik des GeoCacheCanes geschnitten. Acrylglas 10mm.

Ich überlege für die Diplompräsentation 3 bis 5 große Pappen (2x1m) von Modulor zu besorgen (ca. 6 Euro) und diese dann als Pinnwand zu verwenden. Für Recherche, Scribbels, Fotos, Ausdrucke …
