Gestern Abend hat Jürgen Sell angeklingelt und mir interessanterweise einen sehr kleinen und dank open-WRT hackbaren WLAN-Router gezeigt. Dieser wird von FON für relativ kleines Geld unter die Leute gebracht und würde evtl. auch in einen Pilgerstab passen!

For his final year project in information design, Felix Heinen created an amazing set of visualizations of different aspects of a social network. Two big (200 x 90 cm – 80 x 36 inches) posters show the variety and attitudes of members from an internet community like MySpace.

On the first poster you can see the functions used, as well as additional information, such as age, educational background, family status, gender and how often they are logged in. In a glimpse, a view into the key demographic data available for every member’s profile.

The second poster gives you an overview of the geographic location of all members, based on a world map. The aim was to provide the management team with a visualization tool that would allow a better understanding of the community members, rather than a just a simple scan of their database. Felix has also developed a flash based interactive tool that allows users to navigate through all the collected data.

radiusIM is Social IM. It’s the only website that shows you where your friends are hanging out and lets you surf for other people based on location. It supports all the major networks: MSN, AIM/ICQ, Yahoo, and GTalk/Jabber. And you can use radiusIM from anywhere because there are no downloads.

Vorhin hat das Bluetooth-Modul erstmals die Daten des GPS-Recievers ausgegeben (siehe auch Schaltplan vom 29. April 2007). Der ausgegebene Code setzt sich aus NMEA-Datensätzen zusammen und sieht wie folgt aus:

Erläuterung zum oberen Foto: Das USB Kabel gibt die 5V, diese werden auf 3,3V reduziert und fließen in das Bluetooth-Modul. Der RoyalTek GPS Reciever schickt seine Daten an das BT-Modul, welches diese dann später ans Arduino leiten soll.

Project Description:
Sensity is part of “The Emergent City” series of works by Stanza. In this 3rd version of Sensity, Stanza aims at visualizing the dynamic data around his district as an audio visual artwork.

Sensity artworks are made from the data that is collected across the urban and environment infrastructure. A network of sensors, some fixed, and some embedded, collects data which is then published online. The sensors then interpret the micro-data of the interactive city. The output from the sensors displays the emotional state of the city online and the information will be used to create installations and sculptural artifacts.

These artworks made will represent the movement of people, pollution in the air, the vibrations and sounds of buildings, they are in effect emergent social sculptures visualizing the emotional state of the city. The sensor network can be moved from urban to rural setting and different types of visualization can be made depending on the environment. Sensity is an open social sculpture that informs the world and creates new meaningful experiences.

Die neue Google Maps Funktion “Meine Karten” (siehe auch oberes Bild) ist nur wenige Tage alt und schon erscheint die erste Website, die sich mit dem Sammeln und Kategorisieren der erstellten Karten beschäftigt. Jeder kann nach der Registrierung seine Google Maps Kreationen auf Ongopongo präsentieren und archivieren. Z.B.: Friday Night Skate, San Francisco – Map of the route for the weekly Friday Night Skate in San Francisco. Leaves from in front of the Ferry Building promptly at 9:00 p.m. every Friday, as long as it isn’t raining.

Die Rolle des Jakobsweges als Kommunikationsmedium und der Vergleich zu Netzwerken wie dem Internet.

Möglicher Aufbau:
1. Einleitung (Beschreibung Thematik)
- Im Sinne der Medientheorie (S.8 Kloock) Charakteristikum: Medien werden nicht als neutrale Träger, oder Überträger von Informationen wahrgenommen, sondern als Techniken, die die Möglichkeiten der Kommunizierbarkeit von Information konstituieren. (Die Gestalt der Mitteilung formt deren Inhalt und prägt Weltbild und Wahrnehmungsmuster). So stelle ich die These auf, das der Jakobsweg als ein Weltbild und Wahrnehmungsmuster veränderndes Medium, im Sinne eines Informations- und Kommunikationsmedium, gelten kann. Medien nicht als neutrale (Über-)Träger, sondern als Technik, welche die Information formt. Medien als konstitutive Faktoren von Kultur (Vgl. ;c Luhan (S.109, Mersch/S.57 Kloock) The Medium is the message) / S.115 Mersch: Entziffert man in einer Epoche das Grundmedium versteht man Kultur und Gesellschaft.

Die Internetseite
www.geocaching.de ist eine Startseite für deutschsprachige Geocacher. Sie gibt eine Einführung in das Hobby Geocaching und beschäftigt sich mit spezifisch deutschen Geocaching-Aspekten. Diese Internetseite soll nicht die datenbankführenden Geocaching-Seiten wie z.B. Opencaching.de, Geocaching.com oder Navicache.com ersetzen, sondern durch seine interaktive Karte sinnvoll ergänzen. Es können direkt auf dieser Internetseite keine Caches angemeldet oder geloggt werden. Vielmehr soll diese Internetseite der aktiven deutschen Geocaching-Gemeinde eine Plattform bieten und helfen, dieses schöne Hobby auch in Deutschland weiter zu verbreiten. Viele Links zeigen auf die Originalseiten www.opencaching.de, sowie die englischsprachigen Internetseiten www.geocaching.com und www.navicache.com.

Geolog is a Perl script (or a Windows program) that you can use to download all the information about your own caches, your found caches and the ones you missed to find from the geocaching.com website. That works even incrementally. So after having downloaded initially everything, the next time only the new caches will be downloaded. The script works under Linux/Unix and Windows.

Geocaching (gr. γη, ge „Erde“, engl. cache: „geheimes Lager, Depot“, gesprochen: ['ʒiːokɛʃɪŋ]) wird heute meist als Spiel im Sinne einer GPS-Schnitzeljagd gesehen — eine Art elektronische Schatzsuche. Die Verstecke („Caches“) werden anhand geographischer Koordinaten im Internet veröffentlicht und mit Hilfe eines GPS-Empfängers gesucht. Ein Cache ist in der Regel ein wasserdichter Behälter, in dem sich ein Logbuch sowie verschiedene Tauschgegenstände befinden. Jeder Besucher eines Caches trägt sich in das Logbuch ein, um seinen Besuch zu dokumentieren. Anschließend wird der Cache wieder an der Stelle hinterlassen, an der er zuvor gefunden wurde. Der Fund wird auch im Internet auf der zum Cache gehörigen Seite vermerkt und gegebenenfalls durch Fotos ergänzt. So können auch andere Personen – insbesondere der Owner (derjenige, der den Geocache erstmalig hinterlegt hat) – die Geschehnisse rund um den Cache beobachten.

Ich wage es das Geocaching, mit Ursprung in Technik und Wissenschaft, als Neoreligion zu bezeichnen und sehe eine direkte Vergleichsmöglichkeit zum mittelalterlichen Pilgern. Dabei nimmt das Procedere des Geocachings die Form der Pilgerreise an, das Geocaching gleicht auf moderne Art der Reliquienverehrung. Unbekannte Orte werden durch das Vorhandensein von (neo-religiös aufgeladenen) Objekten zum Anziehungspunkt. Es geschieht eine scheinbare Aufwertung des Ortes. Menschen (mag man sie ruhig als Pilger bezeichnen) machen sich auf den Weg zu diesen Orten, um den Caches nahe zu sein und der Hoffnung diesen zu berühren oder gar mitzunehmen.
Dabei fallen damals wie heute Zeitgeschehen (vorherrschende Infrastruktur, wachsende Mobilität etc) und ein übersteigerter (neo-)religiöser Antrieb zusammen. Read the rest of this entry »
