PILGRIMAGE

Eine Reliquie (lateinisch: Überbleibsel) ist (laut der, mir heilbringenden Wikipedia) ein Gegenstand religiöser Verehrung, besonders ein Körperteil oder Teil des persönlichen Besitzes eines Heiligen. Eine Sonderform sind Berührungsreliquien, also Gegenstände wie Kleidungsstoffe, mit denen der Heilige in Berührung kam oder gekommen sein soll. Reliquienverehrung findet sich in fast allen Hauptreligionen – ist auch im Islam und Judentum zu finden, ihr Platz in der Religion ist jedoch durchaus umstritten.

Im Christentum (Katholizismus und Orthodoxie) ist die Reliquienverehrung eine der ältesten Formen der Heiligenverehrung und schon im mittleren 2. Jahrhundert eindeutig nachweisbar, lange vor z.B. Ikonen- oder anderen Heiligenbilder-Verehrungen. Im Protestantismus wird die Reliquienverehrung bereits seit der Zeit Martin Luthers größtenteils abgelehnt. Evangelikale Christen sehen sie als unbiblisch an, Religionsgemeinschaften wie die Adventisten und die Zeugen Jehovas sogar als Götzendienst.

Reliquien werden nach unterschiedlichen Klassen kategorisiert und je nach Wunderwirkung und Lage des Aufbewahrungsortes (Reliquiar) mehr oder weniger von Pilgern während der Wallfahrten frequentiert. Hauptsächlich im Mittelalter war es unter Christen verbreitet Reliquien weiter zu schenken. Wichtige Persönlichkeiten der Christenheit die mit Klöstern in Kontakt waren, bekamen oftmals Reliquien geschenkt. Somit entstanden Sammlungen von verschiedensten Reliquien, die oftmals über Jahrhunderte zusammengetragen wurden.

Die älteste Form des Reliquiars ist der Reliquienschrein. Dabei handelt es sich um einen meist reich geschmückten, dem Sarkophag des Heiligen entsprechenden Kasten in Originalgröße oder miniaturisierter Ausführung. Unter den Pilgern des beginnenden Spätmittelalters wuchs die Begierde danach, die Reliquien auf ihren Wallfahrten unmittelbarer in Augenschein nehmen zu können; vielfach stellte sich gegenüber den geschlossenen Reliquienkästen ein gewisses Misstrauen ein, zumal Reliquienfälschungen überhand nahmen. Daher wurde zunächst der Typus des sprechenden Reliquiars entwickelt – dabei handelt es sich um Behältnisse, die in ihrer äußeren Form dem Körperteil nachempfunden sind, dessen Überreste sich darin befinden. Reliquiare für Armknochen wurden als goldene Arme gestaltet, Fußreliquiare als goldene Beine, Schädelreliquiare als kostbar geschmückte Reliquienbüsten. Auch die sprechenden Reliquiare wurden von den Gläubigen bald als unbefriedigend empfunden, weshalb man im Spätmittelalter dazu überging, aufwendig gefasste gläserne Behälter zu schaffen, in denen die eigeschlossenen Reliquien für den Betrachter direkt sichtbar waren. Ein solches Schauglas wird je nach Ausführung als Reliquienmonstranz oder Ostensorium bezeichnet. Kleine Reliquiensplitter werden seit dem späten Mittelalter von offiziellen kirchlichen Stellen in spezielle verglaste Kapseln von meist ovaler Form eingeschlossen und anschließend versiegelt oder verplombt, um die Echtheit der enthaltenen Reliquie zu dokumentieren und zu verhindern, dass kleine Reliquien verloren gehen können. Eine solche Kapsel wird als Theca bezeichnet; meist befindet sich in ihr neben der Reliquie ein Zettelchen mit erklärender Beschriftung, die sogenannte Cedula.

Ich bin gerade dabei herauszufinden, welche Freeware-Applikationen es für diese beiden SonyEriccson-Smartphones (V600i & T610) gibt, die GPS Tracking via Bluetooth ermöglichen. Ziel wäre es Wege tracken zu können und diese dann als GPX-Daten auszugeben… Tipps willkommen!

In each game, either 9 or 18 waypoints (or golf holes) are created, all centered around a starting point you specify. The exact locations of the holes are chosen at random by computer, with all the unpredictability that presents. Holes might be in suburban neighborhoods or in the middle of wilderness areas. The course creation engine does try to keep the holes out of the ocean.

Then, it’s up to you to see how close you can get to each hole. Your “score” for each hole is determined by how close you get to the exact waypoint. Report the reading on your GPS receiver, in meters, to the computer scorekeeper, which converts the distance into a number of “strokes”. The closer the distance, the fewer the strokes. Two or more Geodashing golfers who live near each other can set up contests to see who can do better on a given course. Or, an individual can compare his score on one course with his score on a different, randomly generated, course in the same area. Or players from around the world can compare their scores against each other, to see which area of the world provides the most accessible (or most challenging) terrain.

Net_Dérive, by Atau Tanaka and Petra Gemeinboeck with the collaboration of Ali Momeni, is a location sensitive mobile media art piece that calls for an exchange between participants in the gallery and participants in the streets. Deployed on advanced mobile phones, the work seeks to create a kind of musical instrument, thinking of the city-as-instrument.

Participants are given a kind of scarf with a mobile phone in each end and off they go to explore the neighborhood. One of the phones takes pictures every 20 secs and collects sounds, the other talks to the GPS (also in the scarf) and to the server inside the gallery space. On a radar they can see themselves pictured as dots but also the images they’re taking. The sounds and pictures collected in the streets are sampled and mapped to a 3D city map in the gallery. As users are walking they can hear some voice instructions through a pair of headphones. Those comments suggest paths to follow or turns to make, they are generated and heard in a musical fashion. The voice instructions are inspired by the old Situationist games and theory of the Dérive – now brought into the digital and mobile spheres. As the user chooses to heed or ignore these instructions, a trace of his/her path is carved out in the city.

The BlueSMiRF is the latest Bluetooth wireless serial cable replacement from Spark Fun Electronics. These modems work as a serial (RX/TX) pipe. Any serial stream from 9600 to 115200bps can be passed seamlessly from your computer to your target. Spark Fun Electronics even tested these units successfully over open air at 350ft (106m !!!). The remote unit can be powered from 3V up to 6V for easy battery attachment. All signal pins on the remote unit are 3V-6V tolerant. No level shifting is required.

Cities are crowded places. Ever since the industrial revolution, mass migration to urban spaces has led to increasing problems of overpopulation and related social disorders. On an individual level, overcrowding can lead to or exacerbate agoraphobia, part of a growing problem of general urban anxiety. Responses to this problem — lack of space, lack of privacy — vary, ranging from physical agility (navigating quickly through crowded spaces) to insensitivity (talking loudly on a mobile phone as if in the privacy of one’s own home) to outright violence. What these responses tend to have in common is an element of denial: the individual refuses to acknowledge and analyze the import of the restriction of her space.

FreeNetworkers (freenetworks.org) have been meeting since 2000 to organize, share information, and pool resources to find the best way to build community networks. Our members include community advocates, system administrators, RF engineers, writers, lawyers, programmers, business owners, and many others who want to help build FreeNetworks in their local communities.

A FreeNetwork is any computer network that allows free local transit, following the guidelines of our peering agreement. By “transit”, we refer to information flowing through the network. While most of our members specialize in wireless networking, a FreeNetwork can be built using Ethernet, fiber optics, or any other kind of networking technology. A FreeNetwork is defined by what its users can do with it, rather than the particular technology it is built on.

Bisher habe ich auf zwei Siemens SE505 WLAN-Router die Freifunkfirmware OpenWRT (openwrt-se505-freifunk-1.4.5-de.bin) gespielt. Andere Router wären auch möglich (vgl. Liste). Die Router “finden” (=sehen) sich nun im ad-hoc-Modus, sobald sich deren Empfangsradius überschneidet und Daten können automatisch weitergeleitet (geroutet) werden.
